Warriors top College Rodeo Events

The curtain closed on college rodeo action on Sunday at the Southeastern Washington Fairgrounds as Walla Walla Community College concluded the short-go of its annual College Rodeo.

The Warriors brought home two individual event champions, but the real winner, as always, was the Child Abuse Prevention Council.

WWCC’s Hudson wins CNFR bull riding title

CASPER, Wyo. — Walla Walla Community College cowboy Cody Hudson overcame an injured collarbone to win the bull riding national championship at the College National Finals Rodeo on Saturday night.

Hudson was hit by the bull during Thursday’s third ride, where he earned a 77.5 for fourth place.

He knew he needed a 75 to win the event at the short go on Saturday night.

“He was hurting bad,” WWCC rodeo coach Buster Barton said. “We talked about it, and he had a chance to win it. There was no way he wasn’t going to ride! But I know it hurt him.”

Warriors capture event titles at WWCC College Rodeo

Walla Walla Community College brought down the curtain on its annual college rodeo and partnership with child abuse prevention in rodeo action Sunday at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds indoor arena.

Sunday climaxed the three-day, four-performance rodeo and featured the championship short go.

“Even though the weather was rather marginal, it was a good overall weekend,” Warriors rodeo coach Buster Barton said. “As usual, we had great crowds and great competition. With the partnership between the Exchange (Club), the school, and the child abuse council, it’s a great thing.”

WWCC College Rodeo wrap up

Twelve schools and 170 entries headlined the College Rodeo hosted by Walla Walla Community College here Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Indoor Arena.
“Our women’s team did outstanding,” WWCC coach Buster Barton said. “Our guys struggled a little bit in the finals and the days before.
“Rodeo is funny,” he said. “It has a lot of different variables and when you throw animals into that equation — literally anything can happen. Rodeo can be very honoring and humbling all at the same time when you combine human competition and throw animals into the mix. It can be tough.”
