Warrior men take 4-0 soccer loss to first-place Sasquatch

SPOKANE — On the defensive all night, Walla Walla Community College took only one shot on goal and left with a 4-0 loss to first-place Spokane in Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action here on Wednesday.

The Warriors (10-4-0 overall, 7-3-0 in the East) had won their last five matches in a row, but missed a chance to climb up regional standings with second-place Columbia Basin (7-2-1) already having lost at North Idaho earlier in the afternoon.

Still in third place, Walla Walla stays home for its next match, and host North Idaho (5-3-2 in the league) on Saturday.

Warrior men seize second place with win

ONTARIO, Ore. — Walla Walla Community College scored twice in the first half here Saturday in NWAC East region men’s soccer action.

The Warriors had to score to break a 1-1 tie but went on to blank Treasure Valley in the second half and earn their fourth victory in a row with a 2-1 win.

Missael Lopez scored off an assist from Luis Gonzalez at the 8:00 mark. The Chukars got it even at the 26:00 mark as Bryson Maximo found the back of the Warriors net for a 1-1 tie.

Warrior men rally to 4-2 victory over Wenatchee Valley

Missael Lopez scored two second-half goals, including the go-ahead, for Walla Walla Community College as the Warriors pulled off a 4-2 comeback win over Wenatchee Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action on the WWCC Tausick Way pitch on Wednesday.

Second-place Walla Walla (8-3-0 overall, 5-2-0 in the region) erased a 1-0 halftime deficit with four straight goals, the first two by Lopez, before Wenatchee could answer.

The Warrior win enabled them to pull within a half-game of East-leading Columbia Basin (5-1 record), which was idle Wednesday. The Hawks last played on Saturday, a 2-1 loss at Walla Walla.

WWCC men beat Hawks, 2-1

Walla Walla Community College took a 2-0 lead, only to see Columbia Basin cut the lead in half with 33 minutes left, but the Warriors hung on to post a 2-1 win here Saturday in NWAC East Region men’s soccer action.

The loss was the first for the Hawks in East Region play and dropped their East record to 5-1.

Juan Martinez broke a scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

WWCC closed out the half with that 1-0 lead.

WWCC men lose to Spokane, 2-1

A Chase Reidt penalty kick in the 72nd minute was the difference Saturday afternoon as Spokane picked up a 2-1 victory over Walla Walla Community College in Northwest Athletic Conference Eastern Region men’s soccer action at Warrior Field.

“Tough day for us,” WWCC coach Ben Rotert said. “We made too many mental mistakes and gave up the penalty.”

Ian Schimandle, off an assist by Reidt, got the Sasquatch on the board in the fifth minute.

“We started slow and gave up a goal early,” Rotert said.

COEUR D’ALENE — McLoughlin High School graduate Juan Martinez broke a muddy stalemate around the 36th minute and Walla Walla Community College picked up its third straight win with a 1-0 victory over North Idaho in their Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action here on a soggy Wednesday.

Only two days after a 3-2 win at Wenatchee, the Warriors (6-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the East) face another big challenge. 

Afternoon showers and a women’s soccer match beforehand present the Walla Walla and North Idaho men with a battered field.
