Barajas nets hat trick as Warrior women win

Reserve forward Klarissa Barajas tallied a hat trick Saturday afternoon as Walla Walla Community College clinched the Northwest Athletic Conference’s Eastern Region title with a 5-1 victory over second-place North Idaho at Warrior Field.

The win improved the Warriors’ unblemished league record to 13-0 and overall mark to 17-0-1.

The visiting Cardinals stunned WWCC by scoring the game’s first goal. Aunika Capps put NIC in front with an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute.

Barajas used a Dominique Velazuez assist to net the equalizer 36 minutes into the opening half.

WWCC men take final home soccer match with 3-2 victory over North Idaho

Walla Walla Community College’s men’s soccer team closed out the home portion of its 2017 schedule Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory over North Idaho in a Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer match at windy and wet Warrior Field.

The Warriors moved into second place in the East with an 8-3 record, and are 11-4 overall.

“Good day for us overall,” WWCC coach Ben Rotert said. “It’s always fun to clinch a playoff spot at home. Very, very happy for the guys!”

EDMONDS, Wash. — Walla Walla collected five straight victories here over the weekend at the Edmonds Crossover community college volleyball tournament before running into Chemeketa in the tournament’s championship match.

The Storm turned back the Warriors in the title showdown, 25-21, 25-15, 25-14, spoiling WWCC’s otherwise unbeaten tournament record.

Undefeated WWCC women’s soccer rallies past Spokane

SPOKANE — Back-to-back goals by Klarissa Barajas with barely 15 minutes left lifted undefeated Walla Walla Community College over Spokane, 3-2, in a Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match here on Wednesday.

The Warriors (16-0-1 overall, 12-0-0 in the league) had to overcome a 2-0 deficit at halftime after Sasquatch goalie Michelle Czarapata denied their only two shots.

SPOKANE — Ocean Bryan scored 14 kills, Ashlin Orosco added 13 kills and Lindsey Carpenter had 11 for Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team as the Warriors tied Spokane for third place in the East with their sweep in Northwest Athletic Conference action here on Wednesday.

WWCC (22-14 overall, 7-4 in the region) picked up the seventh victory in its last nine matches as the Warriors used everybody to finish off Spokane in straight sets, 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14.

Warrior men take 4-0 soccer loss to first-place Sasquatch

SPOKANE — On the defensive all night, Walla Walla Community College took only one shot on goal and left with a 4-0 loss to first-place Spokane in Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action here on Wednesday.

The Warriors (10-4-0 overall, 7-3-0 in the East) had won their last five matches in a row, but missed a chance to climb up regional standings with second-place Columbia Basin (7-2-1) already having lost at North Idaho earlier in the afternoon.

Still in third place, Walla Walla stays home for its next match, and host North Idaho (5-3-2 in the league) on Saturday.

Former Warriors return to dome Saturday

Basketball players from as far back as the 1995-96 season will gather in the Dietrich Dome Saturday night for an event that Walla Walla Community College officials hope will evolve into an annual alumni weekend.

Approximately 30 men and 40-plus women, all of whom played under Warriors coaches Jeff Reinland and Bobbi Hazeltine, are expected to participate in a pair of alumni games. The women’s game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. start, with the men to follow at about 7 p.m.
