Victorino paces WWCC at Hawk Invite

RICHLAND — Walla Walla Community College’s Lauren Victorino finished the Hawk Invitational tied with Madi Brown of North Idaho atop the individual leaderbaord here at Horn Rapids Golf Course on Monday.

Victorino needed only 77 strokes — five over par — including four birdies to complete the course before squaring off with Brown in a sudden death playoff at the first hole.

However a long approach resulted in Victorino two-putting, while Brown hit the green to score a par 4 and clinch the first-place medal.

“Lauren played her career best today,” Walla Walla coach Mike Rostollan said. “After good drives, Lauren’s approach was […]

Warriors, Malinen fall one shot short of NWAC Titles

Walla Walla coach Mike Rostollan talks a lot about how every shot counts in a collegiate golf tournament.

“A good swing here, a bad swing there, the tables can turn quickly,” Rostollan said prior to Monday’s second and final round of the Northwest Athletic Conference Championships at the Walla Walla Country Club. “The value of a single shot can be glaring at the end of a tournament.”

Rostollan’s words proved prophetic Monday as his Warrior men’s team lost to Spokane by a single stroke in a sudden-death playoff and WWCC star Lauri Malinen came up a one swing shy of North Idaho’s […]

Malinen finishes third at Apple Tree

YAKIMA — Walla Walla’s Lars Malinen strung together three consecutive birdies beginning at No. 13 here Monday and moved to the top of the leader board at the Apple Tree Golf Course.

The 17th hole proved to be a disaster for Malinen as he four-putted the 180-yard par-3 for an ugly double bogey. He then proceeded to bogey the par-5 18th for a second-round score of 74 that left him one […]

Co-leaders at 2-under-par 70 after Sunday’s play, Malinen followed with a 2-over-par 74 Monday for an even-par 144 showing while Campbell shot 75 and finished a shot behind at 145.
