Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball coach Bobbi Hazeltine notched her 300th victory in her Warrior coaching career here Wednesday in NWAACC East Region women’s basketball action.
The Warriors ran to a 33-23 lead at the half, and continued to pull away from Spokane Community College en route to a 62-45 win to give Hazeltine her 300th WWCC win.
“It shows I’ve been here a long time,” Hazeltine quipped. “It’s nice and I know I’m the one that gets it (the credit), but every player and every assistant coach, it’s for them too.”

WALLA WALLA — Bobbi Hazeltine professes to be superstitious when it comes to some things — broken mirrors and black cats, perhaps — but not necessarily the number 13.
At least not where her Walla Walla Community College women’s basketball team is concerned.
The Warriors will be making their 13th consecutive appearance in the NWAACC Championships beginning Saturday at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. But the coach hasn’t given a thought to the significance of the unlucky number.

WENATCHEE — Caitlin Duncan led four Walla Walla Community College players in double figures with 20 points here Saturday afternoon as the NWAACC Eastern Region-leading and No. 2-ranked Warriors registered a 69-55 women’s basketball victory over Wenatchee.
“Caitlin had a great game,” WWCC coach Bobbi Hazeltine said. “She just took the ball to the hole. She was really good offensively. That was a big boost for us.”
Michelle Seitz, who set a school record with 44 points in a 77-53 home victory over Yakima Valley on Wednesday, contributed a double-double to the WWCC cause — 18 points and 10 rebounds.

KENNEWICK — For one half here Saturday afternoon, it appeared that Walla Walla Community College was primed and ready to pull off an upset in the opening round of the NWAACC men’s basketball tournament at the Toyota Center.
The Warriors — who entered the tourney as the No. 4 seed from the Eastern Region and with a 13-13 overall record — held a 36-33 halftime lead over sixth-ranked Chemeketa, the South Region’s regular-season champion and last season’s NWAACC runner-up.

KENNEWICK — Guard Xavier Bazile registered game highs of 24 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists here Sunday morning as Peninsula ended Walla Walla Community College’s 2012-13 season with a 77-59 victory during session two of the NWAACC men’s basketball tournament in the Toyota Center.
The victory, which improved the Pirates’ record to 18-11, advanced Peninsula into a loser-out game this morning with Centralia.

BANDON, Ore. – The Pacific Ocean showed its teeth here Sunday during the opening round of the Southwest Oregon Invitational golf tournament at the Bandon Dunes Resort.
Unseasonably mild weather greeted 67 men and 34 women as play commenced in the morning at the Old McDonald Course and at Bandon Dunes. But by day’s end, wind, clouds, mist and rain numbed the players and sent scores soaring.

BANDON, Ore. — Despite forfeiting two matches here Sunday at the Bandon Crossing Golf Course, Walla Walla Community College’s men’s golf team outpointed Southwest Oregon 6 1/2-5 1/2 during the singles portion of the Lakers-Warriors Cup.
And that was more than enough to lift WWCC to a 19-11 victory in the two-day competition that combined Sunday’s singles play with Saturday doubles play in scramble, best-ball and scotchball formats.
In women’s play, Southwest Oregon used a 5 1/2-1/2 advantage in Saturday’s doubles competition to pull out a 71/2-2 1/2 victory. The women split four singles matches on Sunday.

WALLA WALLA — Walla Walla Community College’s Mike Ciez turned in a Fall Invitational-winning final round at Wine Valley Golf Course Monday.
Ciez followed Sunday’s opening-round 69 with an even-par 72 Monday to edge Spokane’s Cole Lorenzo by a stroke for the men’s individual honor.
The Warriors’ Kelsy Bigness paced the WWCC women’s effort with a third-place effort, seven strokes behind Spokane’s Cindy Pitkin’s tournament-winning 167.
Both the WWCC men and women finished second in the team competition behind the Sasquatch.
Spokane’s men finished with 569 total, followed by WWCC at 575, Southwestern Oregon 621 and Columbia Basin 664.
