Walla Walla and Big Bend win 2016-2017 Presidents Cup for Academic Excellence

The NWAC office is pleased to announce the 2016-2017 NWAC Presidents Cup winners:  Walla Walla Community College Warriors (Frank Bosone Division) and Big Bend Community College Vikings (Dick McClain Division).

This is the second time WWCC has won the President’s Cup in the last five years and BBCC is a three-time winner winning in 12-13, 15-16, and 16-17.

The Presidents Cups are awarded to institutions based on the academic performance of their athletic teams.  Points are awarded for student-athletes who complete 36 credits, 72 credits, complete a certificate, and or degree completion.  Student-athletes GPA determine amount of points awarded.

WWCC splits weekend matches

WENATCHEE — After dropping a 3-1 decision to East Region second place, 11-1, Columbia Basin Friday, Walla Walla Community College bounced back to sweep Wenatche Valley here Saturday in NWAC East Region volleyball action.

The Warriors were efficient in desposing of the Knights. The Warriors posted wins of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-14.

Abbey Schwager led the offense with 30 assists as Lindsey Carpenter slammed 12 kills and Ocean Bryan added 10 kills. On the defensive side, Hannah Pond led WWCC with 16 digs, and Carpenter added 12.

Warrior men seize second place with win

ONTARIO, Ore. — Walla Walla Community College scored twice in the first half here Saturday in NWAC East region men’s soccer action.

The Warriors had to score to break a 1-1 tie but went on to blank Treasure Valley in the second half and earn their fourth victory in a row with a 2-1 win.

Missael Lopez scored off an assist from Luis Gonzalez at the 8:00 mark. The Chukars got it even at the 26:00 mark as Bryson Maximo found the back of the Warriors net for a 1-1 tie.

WWCC women win at Treasure Valley, 2-0

ONTARIO, Ore. — Walla Walla Community College remained perfect in NWAC East Region women’s soccer action here Saturday.

The Warriors scored a goal in each half to down Treasure Valley 2-0.

It could’ve, should’ve been worse. The Warriors blasted 24 shots and held the Chukars to one shot. Lupita Villavicencio, in net for the Chukars, kept the match from getting out of hand as she picked up nine saves,

Schwager earns Setter of the Week honors; Walla Walla wins

ONTARIO, Ore. — Abbey Schwager dished 34 assists for Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team as the Warriors picked up their third straight match victory, and fifth of sixth, with a sweep of Treasure Valley in Northwest Athletic Conference action here on Wednesday.

Schwager helped the fourth-place Warriors (20-13 overall, 5-3 in the region) to a 25-22, 25-15 and 25-13 victories here, shortly after the conference named her Setter of the Week. The Boise native totaled 78 assists last week in sweeps of Blue Mountain and Yakima Valley.

Under Armour Women’s Soccer Player of the Week – Week 7

Chelsea Marozik, Hanford HS/Richland, WA, has been a key component one of the league’s best defenses. Last week against Wenatchee Valley she had three assists while helping to limit WVC to just four shots on goal. Then against Yakima, Marozik led the back line to shut out the Yaks, earning WWCC’s NWAC leading 10th shutout of the year.
