Martinez’s goal leads Warrior men to 1-0 soccer victory

COEUR D’ALENE — McLoughlin High School graduate Juan Martinez broke a muddy stalemate around the 36th minute and Walla Walla Community College picked up its third straight win with a 1-0 victory over North Idaho in their Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer action here on a soggy Wednesday.

Only two days after a 3-2 win at Wenatchee, the Warriors (6-2-0 overall, 3-1-0 in the East) face another big challenge.

WWCC women shut out North Idaho, 2-0 in NWAC soccer play

COEUR D’ALENE — Walla Walla Community College sophomore captain Chelsea Marozik led the way to a pair of goals as the undefeated Warriors topped North Idaho, 2-0, in a Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match here on Wednesday.

Walla Walla (8-0-1 overall, 4-0-0 in the East) finished the day atop regional standings with Columbia Basin (3-1-1) idle following its loss to third-place Spokane (2-0-1) on Tuesday. North Idaho (2-1-0) remained fourth.  

“Overall, I’m extremely happy with how the game went today,” Warriors coach Jordan Hacker said. “We got a valuable three points at a very tough place to play.”

Spokane hands Warriors four-set volleyball defeat

Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team appeared to take command with a decisive 25-8 victory over Spokane, evening things up in the second set after a 25-18 loss in the opener of their Northwest Athletic Conference match here on Wednesday.

However, Spokane answered with back-to-back victories, 25-15 and 25-20, to finish off the Warriors in their first regional bout of the season. 

“We had plenty of opportunities to win, but made too many mistakes and fell apart,” Walla Walla coach Chelsie Speer said. “It was a disappointing loss. Spokane is a good team, but we also had plenty of opportunities to win.”

Warrior women surrender goal, defeat Wenatchee Valley 2-1

WENATCHEE — The Walla Walla Community College women’s soccer team surrendered a goal for the first time this season, but scored twice in the second half to remained undefeated after eight matches with a 2-1 win over Wenatchee Valley in a Northwest Athletic Conference makeup here on Monday.

WENATCHEE — Missael Lopez scored two goals as Walla Walla Community College defeated Wentachee Valley, 3-2, in a Northwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer makeup here on Monday.

Warriors roll through Everett volleyball pool play, fall in bracket

EVERETT — Walla Walla Community College’s volleyball team won pool play at the Everett Tournament here on Saturday, and then ran through two matches of bracket play on Sunday before falling to Bellevue.

The Warriors opened tourney play on Saturday with a 25-16, 25-12 win over Grays Harbor, before defeating Everett, 25-16, 25-20. They concluded pool play with a 25-19, 13-25, 15-12 win over Pierce.

On Sunday, WWCC defeated Shoreline, 25-18, 25-19, 25-16, and the University of Fraser Valley, 16-25, 25-18, 29-17, 21-25, 15-11 in a hard-fought match.

Bellevue then handed the Warriors an 18-25, 27-25, 25-22, 25-16 loss.

Walla Walla women crush Timberwolves, 14-0, in soccer

Walla Walla Community College unleashed an unstoppable attack here Saturday at the Tausick Way pitch in women’s NWAC soccer action. The Warriors overwhlemed Blue Mountain 14-0.

Madison Brownell got the first Warrior goal in the 13th minute. Brownell would score again in the 29th and the Warriors were off and running. Brownell and Tate Kautzky both tallied two goals in the first half as the Warriors opened a 8-0 lead at intermission.

The Warriors added six more goals in the second half to run the final to 14-0. The win runs the Warriors to 6-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in East Region play.
