Warriors sweep Blue Mountain


PENDLETON — Walla Walla Community College used offense and pitching here Saturday in NWAC East Region baseball action to sweep Blue Mountain Community College.

The Warriors pounded out 16 hits in defeating the Timberwolves 12-5 in the opener. After spotting Blue Mountain a 4-0 lead after one, the bullpen shut out the Timberwolves the rest of the way and the Warrior bats came to life as Walla Walla completed the Sweep with a 9-4 second-game win.

Softball takes two from CBC

Walla Walla Community College crushed Columbia Basin, 14-1, to complete a doubleheader sweep in Northwest Athletic Conference softball action here on Wednesday.

The Warriors had held off Columbia Basin for a 5-3 win in the first game of their East Division matchup.

The sweep gave Walla Walla (14-8 overall, 9-5 in the division) sole possession of third place in the East, as Treasure Valley settled for a split with Blue Mountain on Wednesday and slipped to fourth place.

McLoughlin High School alumnus Makayla Kelly joined Ashley Hicks in hitting home runs as they helped the Warriors to a lopsided victory in the nightcap.

The WWCC baseball team wins the opener, 10-4, before Treasure Valley salvages the split with a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

One big inning keyed both Walla Walla Community College and Treasure Valley to a victory, as they split a Northwest Athletic Conference East Division baseball doubleheader here on Wednesday.

The Warriors scored seven runs in the fifth inning for a 10-4 win in the opener, but then surrendered five runs in the seventh inning of the nightcap, a 9-2 loss.

Warriors split pair of softball doubleheaders

Walla Walla split a pair of Northwest Athletic Conference East Region softball doubleheaders over the weekend on the road.

The Warriors dropped the first end of a twin bill at Big Bend in Moses Lake Friday by a score of 3-0 but bounced back to win the nightcap 8-2.

In a Saturday pair at North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene, WWCC claimed the first game 6-3, but lost the second 9-7.

The splits left the Warriors with an 8-6 record in the East, 13-9 overall.

Warriors open league play with sweep of Big Bend

It took 12 innings in the opener of Walla Walla Community College’s NWAC East baseball matchup with Big Bend on Thursday, but the Warriors pulled out a 6-5 victory on the Tausick Way field on Thursday.

The home team didn’t have nearly as much trouble dispatching the visitors in an 8-2 win in the nightcap.

“It was great to see the guys battle and find a way to come back late in the first game,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said. “You’ve got to always believe that something amazing can happen.”

WWCC sweeps Grays Harbor

After a pair of disheartening losses to Linn-Benton on Saturday, Walla Walla bounced back with a purpose Sunday and swept Grays Harbor 12-3 and 16-3 in a non-league community college baseball doubleheader at Warriors Field.

“It was good to put up some runs,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said. “We swung the bats all right and they helped us out by making some errors.”

Grays Harbor came into the doubleheader with a 1-13 record and was guilty of four defensive errors in the first game and had five miscues in the second.

Warrior Softball sweeps Blue Mountain

Walla Walla battered Blue Mountain 16-2 and 8-0 Sunday in a Northwest Athletic Conference East Region softball doubleheader at Warriors Field.

Mikayla Faulkner and Lyndzie Parker each connected for their fifth home run of the season and Hailey Danly slammed her second to power the Warriors in the opener. Parker knocked in four runs and scored three times while Anna Williams doubled and singled, collected three RBIs and scored three times.

Rachel Collins went the five-inning distance, striking out six, walking two and allowing three Timberwolves hits .

Golfers tie for sixth at Olympic

BREMERTON, Wash. — Walla Walla lost ground and finished tied for sixth in a field of eight teams here Friday as the Olympic Invitational men’s golf tournament concluded at the Gold Mountain Olympic Course.

The Warriors shot 315 as a team, four shots better than their first-round total during Thursday’s opening round of the 36-hole event. But they finished 28 shots behind first-place Spokane after trailing the Sasquatch by 14 shots after the first 18 holes of play.

Spokane won the tournament with a 606 tally for its top four scores, following up a first-round 304 score with a 302 card Friday.

Linn-Benton takes two from Warriors

Walla Walla Community College chased the Roadrunners all day here Saturday in NWAC non-conferenc baseball action. Linn-Benton raw away with two wins, pulling out 8-5 and 10-7 wins over the Warriors.

The Warriors, with single runs in the first three innings, led 3-1 after three in the opener. The Roadrunners chipped away to narrow the gap to 4-3 after five.

LBCC exploded for four in the sixth, and the Warriors didn’t have a response on this day.

Colton Cosner led the Roadrunners with three hits as Linn Benton pounded out 13 hits in taking game one.

Walla Walla and Prairie Baseball Academy split a collegiate baseball doubleheader Sunday at Warriors Field on the Walla Walla Community College campus.

The Warriors claimed the first game 8-0 but lost the nightcap 9-4 to see their season record settle at 6-4.

“I thought we did a good job of swinging the bats in situations today,” WWCC coach Dave Meliah said. “We moved some runners around and got guys in when we got them in scoring position. And Jarrod Molnaa did a great of owning the strike zone,” Meliah added of his starting pitcher in the first game.
