MOSES LAKE – Walla Walla Community College banged out 30 hits here Saturday during an NWAACC Eastern Region softball sweep of Big Bend.
The Warriors scored nine times in the fourth inning of game one and tallied 10 more runs in the fifth in a 23-1 romp.
WWCC led 7-0 after two innings of the nightcap and cruised to a 9-0 triumph.
Walla Walla, No. 2 in the latest NWAACC poll, improved to 6-0 in league and 14-2 overall with the sweep.
Dara Kosanke pitched both games for the Warriors and allowed just seven hits on the day.
Offensively, WWCC got four hits in game one from Kate Hawk and two apiece from Alicia Baker, Jill McDaniels, Katie Martell, Brandy Knowles, and Mercedes Pearson.
One of Knowles’ hits was a one-out, solo home run in the third inning.
In the second game, Kosanke and McDaniels had three hits apiece for Walla Walla. Baker, Knowles and Pearson slapped two each.
“Dara pitched well,” WWCC coach Mike Staudenmaier said. “We played great defense and swung the bats well. We came out ready to play. We had a long week because we couldn’t get on our field (to practice, due to the weather).”
The Warriors play at Spokane at noon today. The teams enter the twin bill tied for the league lead.
